This painting was fun for a few reasons. First, as you may know by now, I love lighthouses. The subject here is the East Point Lighthouse in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Also, I tried something completely new with this painting. First, I painted the entire canvas brown and then let it dry completely. Then I cut an oval out of a piece of contact (shelf paper) and stuck it to the canvas. After completing the painting, I peeled away the contact paper and was left with a painted brown matte surrounding the picture. It was great fun and I'm sure I will use this method many times in the future! This painting was done in oils on a 16" x 12" pre-stretched canvas.
